INVITO ALL… UNIONE

Busseto, 17 novembre 2019
Teatro Verdi
Dedalus Ensemble
Conductor: Luciano Cavalli
Flute: Comaci Boschi
Clarinet: Luisa Rosso
Violin: Diego Massimini
Cello: Beata Kolodziej

“Invito…all’unione” is a composition freely inspired by the synesthesia between words, gestures and sounds. It takes inspiration from a Massimo D’Azeglio’s poetry (“Stories, legends and memories of Italian life) and from some popular Risorgimento melodies. The musical project starts from the incredible sound and rhythmic force of words, together with the extraordinary actuality of the ideas expressed. The words, the gestures and the popular songs of that particular historical moment start the enthusiasm of the men who invoke the unity of Italy. In the first part of the composition, fragments of popular melodies come back to mind in the contrapuntal game of the four protagonists: flute, clarinet, violin and cello. They speak mainly with one another, trying to interpret the gestures and ideas of the poetic text, translating them into rhythm and sound. In the second part of the composition, freely when each performer declaims the words of poetry, the others “comment” and complete the speech with the sound of their instruments. The sound path of the four protagonists also wants to be an invitation for our time: to rediscover a sense of community with the same enthusiasm of the men of the past, who with “many arms to one voice all push together”…

CANZONETTA A 2

Siena, 30 luglio 2011
Palazzo Chigi Saracini
Clarinet: Marco Ortolani
Cello: Vittorio Ceccanti

“Canzonetta a 2”, for Bb Clarinet and Cello, born as a provocation of a music box-toy, results such as a rhythmic melodic fragment; a work where the sound material manipulation, both in a synchronic and diachronic, gives rise to the dialectical relationship between the clarinet and the cello. The work, built symmetrically, has five sections that follow one to another without any interruption: the melodic contours converging / diverging central parts framed by episodes more expressive and cantabile.

TEXTURE

Roma, 17 novembre 2005
Sala Accademica del Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia
Orchestra del Conservatorio Santa Cecilia
Conductor: Francesco Lanzillotta
Flute solo: Romolo Balzani

“Texture”, for flute and chamber orchestra, is result of a personal journey with researching of sounds always changing. It introduces some elements which emerging from the texture through vibrations and tones. Two figures in particular, built on a few intervals, are the basis of the musical discourse. This is developped through the dialectical relationship between the flute and string orchestra. The piece consists of four sections, closely interlinked seamlessly: Adagio, Più mosso, Scherzoso e Adagio. The speech takes place as a phase sequence in order to create variety within a single project: each section is a “re-reading” from a different perspective, with a continuous experimentation of sound.

DATI RECENTI

Reggio Emilia, 19 novembre 2008
Istituto superiore di Studi musicali “A. Peri”
Flute: Chiara Strabioli

For solo flute, “Dati recenti” consists of two sections in stark contrast to each other. The first part, expressive and irregular, is characterized by fast movements of notes from low to high notes that alternate with more static moments, with long, repeated sounds. In the second part, cheerful and brilliant, short melodic fragments, with legato/stomped notes, take up musical ideas of the previous section, proposing them again in a less aleatory way.

CONVERSAZIONE A TRE

Roma, 24 aprile 2002
Sala Accademica del Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia

The piece for trio is built on a short interval series of 5 sounds: from this the three main musical ideas that characterize the entire composition arise. Flute, Clarinet and Bassoon dialogue with each other in a continuous contrapuntal game, each with its own peculiarities of timbre, until closing after a slow and essential oscillatory movement of a few sounds.
