Italian Cinematographers’ Style at La Fémis

Again, the highlight of this 15th AFC Micro Salon was the “Carte Blanche”, offered yearly to a foreign cinematographic society, that this year was accepted by the Italian Society of Cinematographers (AIC). There was a high-level presentatio, majestically orchestrated by three leading members of the contemporary Italian cinematography – AIC Presdident Daniel Nannuzzi, with the 45-minutes premiere of the “Italian Cinematographers’ Style” documentary (with music composed by Francesco Cara), followed by Vittorio Storaro AIC, ASC and Luciano Tovoli AIC, ASC who presented the wonderful book “L’Arte Della Cinematografia.”

On February 7th in Paris, on the occasion of the Carte Blanche AIC, the documentary film Italian Cinematographers’ Style was screened. In the Jean Renoir a la Femis hall 300 spectators, among which the greatest French Cinematographers: it was a triumph, endless applause and many thanks from the AFC for having created this homage to our Cinematography. Francesco Cara, the composer of the film’s Soundtrack, composed a true Symphonic Poem accompanying the images with elegance and irony, creating a perfect symbiosis between his music and the original soundtracks of the films chosen to celebrate the style of Italian Cinematographers.

Daniele Nannuzzi

During the special presentation of the Carte Blanche AIC at the French Cinematography Association in Paris I saw and listened to the film Italian Cinematographers’ Style. Francesco Cara’s music not only underscored Daniele Nannuzzi’s beautiful overview of Italian Cinematography, but also elevated the varying luminous tones that, once again, demonstrate how image and music form an exciting pair.
